Main Street Santa Monica Restaurants: What's Open Fall 2026?

Where does the 2900 block of Main Street get its coffee now? Until eight days ago, part of the answer was the Starbucks at 2901 Main St. The store closed Saturday, Sept. 26, as part of a cut of about 250 locations across North America. Local coverage of the closure did not name a replacement tenant for the space.

Most of the new businesses that have reached Main Street this year are built around brunch, dinner, and drinks. The one announced concept aimed squarely at mornings, an adoption cafe two doors up, is still marked as coming soon. On this stretch, early-day options have thinned while evening options have grown, and the Main Street directory still shows several businesses that are not yet open.

The block, address by address

The 2900 block is where the change is most concentrated. Here is how it stands on Oct. 4, 2026.

Address Business What it is Status as of Oct. 4, 2026
2901 Main St. Starbucks Chain coffee Closed Sept. 26
2917 Main St. Bar Fortuna Handmade pasta, Italian cocktails Announced; website says "Opening soon"
2926 Main St. Circle Bar Longtime bar Reopened May 22
2929 Main St. Chez Luna Adoption Cafe Lattes and adoptable dogs Announced for summer 2026; not confirmed open
3002 Main St. Alpha School SM Private school Listed for fall 2026; no opening date confirmed

2917 Main St.

Bar Fortuna is the project from Brian Bornemann, the Santa Monica native who opened Crudo e Nudo in 2021. It is taking over the former Vamos Vamos space. Forbes reported in late July that the restaurant would focus on handmade pasta and Italian cocktails, with a wine list designed by J.D. Plotnick, and that it was scheduled to open in early fall. That July target is still the most recent one on record. The restaurant's own site reads "Opening soon" and is hiring.

2926 Main St.

Circle Bar came back on May 22, and Visit Santa Monica's summer update later listed it as returned. Of everything on the block, it is the confirmed arrival, and it is a bar.

2929 Main St.

The Main Street Business Improvement Association lists Chez Luna Adoption Cafe as a summer 2026 arrival. Its listing describes the concept as "LA's only adoption café," where "premium lattes meet live puppy love," and invites visitors to "make doing good your morning ritual." That is the block's announced morning use. The cafe's website still says "Coming This Summer," and no source checked for this post confirms it had opened by Oct. 4.

What the rest of Main Street added

Farther north, the openings follow the same pattern. The one confirmed newcomer is designed to run late into the day.

Met Her at a Bar opened its Santa Monica location at 2651 Main St., Unit A. It is the second Met Her at a Bar and the latest from the husband-and-wife team behind Met Him at a Bar, Her Thai, and Night We Met. The Infatuation listed it on Aug. 26 as larger than the Mid-Wilshire original and open through dinner. Brunch runs until 2:30 p.m., and then the menu moves to pizza, pasta, and shareable plates like chicken parm and branzino. Reservations go through Resy, and the phone number is (310) 392-4668.

Another delayed opening is at 2441 Main St., the former Holey Grail Donuts space. The Santa Monica Mirror reported the donut shop had closed by early April, with signage naming La Diperie as the next tenant. La Diperie's dipped soft serve was listed for "End of Summer 2026." The chain's own store locator still shows the Santa Monica location as "Coming Soon."

The same Mirror report noted that Samosa House had closed its Main Street location. At the time, it was unclear whether the closure was temporary. The BIA restaurant directory still lists Samosa House at 2301 Main St. That entry predates the closure.

Off Main, Pontu is the most recent walk-up option. The Peruvian chicken counter at 3117 Ocean Park Blvd. was described as newly opened in May.

Sept. 26 was supposed to be a different weekend

The Starbucks closed on the same weekend the area was due to host its biggest new event of the fall. The inaugural Ocean Way Festival, a City of Santa Monica and Goldenvoice production, was scheduled for Sept. 26 and 27 on the beach south of the Pier.

The city canceled it on Sept. 11. Over Labor Day weekend, a large south swell from Hurricane Marie stripped sand from the site, which would have pushed the festival's safe shoreline setback 96 feet inland. Runoff from the Pico-Kenter Storm Drain outfall also cut through the southern end of the site, moving the festival's southern boundary roughly 500 feet north. The city's announcement says the Pier was not damaged and remains open, and that plans to bring the festival back in 2027 are already underway.

Main Street's own fall calendar is no fuller. The BIA's 2026 events page lists events only through July 4, and no dated fall 2026 street event has been posted. The Rocktober page on the BIA site describes an older event and does not list a 2026 date.

The fixed points that still hold

With openings late and the festival canceled, a few recurring things set the street's schedule this fall.

  • Main Street Farmers Market. Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., year-round, at 2640 Main St. The city says it runs rain or shine, apart from holiday or extreme-condition closures. It sits a block from Met Her at a Bar.
  • OPA Book Club at Ocean Park Library, 2601 Main St. Meetings start at 6 p.m. on Oct. 7 with The Big Sleep, Nov. 4 with James, and Dec. 2 with The Year of Living Danishly.
  • OPA monthly meeting. Monday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m., also at the Ocean Park Library. The Ocean Park Association has put a discussion of the Main Street parking lots on its November agenda, after the election. It notes that no projects have been formally proposed for those lots.

Getting to Main from the Pier side also takes extra time this fall. Starting Sept. 28, crews began a closure of the Moomat Ahiko Way on- and off-ramps that is expected to last two months while they demolish the last section of the old Pier bridge and build new bridge columns. Detours run by way of Pacific Coast Highway and Ocean Avenue. Drivers going from Ocean Avenue to PCH are sent north to the California Incline. As part of the same project, the historic Santa Monica Pier sign is coming down this fall for restoration. It is scheduled to go back up when construction wraps in late 2027.

For now, the next changes to watch on the 2900 block are the openings at 2917 and 2929. Bar Fortuna would add a pasta dinner option to a block that already has a reopened bar. Chez Luna would bring back the morning trade that 2901 lost on Sept. 26.
